Privacy & governance
Who runs Easter Trees, where your data goes, and what we intend to become.
Who we are right now
Easter Trees is a Community Interest Company (CIC), founded by Tara Button. Our CIC application has been filed with Companies House and is pending registration at the time of writing. Once confirmed, this page will list the company number, registered address, and named director(s). The campaign is being built in the open, with the goal of running its first national planting day on Good Friday, 28 March 2027.
Where we're heading
The CIC structure was chosen so that any surplus generated by the initiative is locked into community benefit, with an asset lock and CIC Regulator oversight. Once incorporation is confirmed, we'll publish the formal governing document and begin operating under it. If we move to charitable status later, the same transparency applies.
We're also assembling an advisory group of horticulturalists, conservationists, and community-tree-planting practitioners. As that takes shape we'll list members here.
What we collect, and why
- Email addresses — when you register interest, we use these only to send you Easter Trees campaign updates. You can unsubscribe from any email we send. We do not pass these to anyone else.
- Postcodes and regions — we use these to plot land offers on the map and to share aggregate, regional demand data with garden centre partners. Regional data shared with partners is always anonymous (e.g. "340 people in the South East"), never tied to individual emails.
- Land offer details — name, email, postcode, photo of site, and access notes from landowners. These are reviewed by us, and once approved appear on the public map. The map shows the site description and capacity, not your full email address.
- Spot claims — when you reserve a planting spot, your name and email are shared only with the landowner of that specific site, so you can arrange planting day. The landowner's contact details are shared back with you for the same reason.
- Garden centre partner details — the information provided on the partner sign-up page is used to list participating centres on the map and to send you the asset pack and demand data you asked for.
Where the data lives
All data is stored in Google Sheets, accessed by Tara only, until the CIC is incorporated. After that, named directors will have access. We do not use third-party analytics that fingerprint or track you across the web. If we add basic page-view analytics, it will be a privacy-respecting service like Plausible or Netlify Analytics — no cookies, no cross-site tracking.
Your rights
You can ask us at any time to:
- tell you what data we hold about you,
- correct anything that's wrong,
- delete your record entirely,
- export your data in a portable format.
Email hello@eastertrees.com with the subject line "Data request" and we'll respond within seven days.
Cookies
We use one piece of browser storage: sessionStorage remembers spots you've claimed during a single browser session, so the map reflects your reservation immediately. It is cleared the moment you close the tab. We do not use marketing or tracking cookies.
